Sowing the Seeds - Past Experience

When the call came for me, it seemed to come out of nowhere and yet, years later, it is as clear as day. I have memories of encouraging my friends to dance in circles wearing garlands of flowers, of making offerings to the water spirits, of dressing as a witch, creating fairy gardens and cemeteries, making small Greek temples and of being banned from Sunday school for asking why god wasn’t a woman. As the wheel turned from child to young woman, I called to the goddess of the moon in my 13th year, arms upraised at the window of a sky, lit by a full moon, asking her for guidance. I was drawn to various forms of divination in my teens, exploring the I Ching, tarot and runes, practising yoga and transcendental meditation and later, coming across a coven of witches, discovering there was a way of living that brought all those interests together and honouring them. I understood the call now, but I had no idea where it would take me.

Blossoming – Learning and growing

Working in a magical group is both personal and dedicated. Learning, study and praxis were encouraged and could be intense. Studying the western mystery tradition, the rites and myths of ancient gods and goddesses, the learning of divination and magic, folklore and myth and a daily praxis that included the profoundly creative expression that is pagan ritual and ceremony, all became a sacred journey of transformation. When the winds of change came some 25 years later, I left the group and spread my wings, exploring middle eastern techniques of meditation and sacred dance. I spun with Sufis, sang with druids, danced at dawn with the green man, sat in ceremony with members of many different traditions and for a period of time, worked to create awareness of alternative health, wisdom, pagan and esoteric practices within the media.

Harvesting – Teaching

Teaching is learning in a different way and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to reach so many different people of such incredibly different backgrounds and stories. I have explored many ways of teaching from workshops and lectures open rituals and sacred dance, courses and private tuition. For 13 years I worked at Treadwells, a magickal esoteric bookshop centre in the heart of London for students of the occult, magic and witchcraft, where I read tarot and ran workshops and courses. In my time, I read for every kind of person; rich and poor, famous or alone, different faiths, races, backgrounds, cultures, sexuality and gender. From one hour to the next, the story could be wildly different, and I feel honoured to have held space for so many, who placed their trust in my ability to seek insight into their journey. I learned so much about human nature and I learned how to reveal what I saw with consideration. I offered Wheel of the Year workshops for the seasonal festivals for six years, taught foundation and advanced courses and workshops on tarot, wicca and witchcraft, myth and symbolism and a variety of goddesses and their traditions from the ancient world. In seeking to stretch my knowledge in a different way, I completed an MA in Myth, Cosmology and the Sacred.

A Sacred Path

My personal Wiccan practice is at the core of my path, whilst widely exploring other ways of practising magick and honouring the sacred. My public work is focused on helping others find or follow their path. The journey that I set out on has become so interwoven with who I am that it is inseparable. We become the path over time and commitment where something quite magical happens – a kind of spiritual weaving of your character and your work, your personal and private life, where who you are and what you worked towards, is no longer separate but completely natural. Transformation that comes from wisdom is real, if we but seek it enough.
